Good Hotel Guide Review
Given ‘a warm welcome’, guests this year were pleasantly surprised by Alison and Bryan Edwards’s unassuming guest house overlooking North Bay and the beach. ‘On arrival we wondered what we’d let ourselves in for, as it seemed a seaside boarding house. However, it’s in a good central position and has its own car park. We slept well and had a great breakfast cooked to order in the morning. And the bill! At that price, you just can’t complain.’ Bedrooms (many with sea views) may be ‘plain’, but they have ‘clean linen and lovely towels’. ‘We had more room than we’ve had in far more expensive hotels.’ Breakfast has home-baked bread, and home-made jams and marmalade; Yorkshire smoked kippers, tofu-and-mushroom sausages, bacon from local farms. A continental breakfast may be taken in the bedroom. Amblers and ramblers, ask the friendly hosts for route information and car-free itineraries; there are also drying facilities on site, and packed lunches, with home-baked rolls and cakes (£6 per person). Lounge, bar area, breakfast room (background radio). Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). Parking. Children welcomed (£10 per night; high chair). 10 mins’ walk from the town centre. 13 bedrooms (9 with sea views; 1 on ground floor; 2 family rooms). Per room B&B single £36–£40, double £50–£66. Closed Dec–Jan except New Year.
