Good Hotel Guide Review
In wooded grounds, Jo Bester’s Lakeland hotel near Derwentwater is liked for its ‘good position’, ‘helpful staff’ and ‘tasty food’. Several of the bedrooms have patio doors leading to the garden; others have a balcony; most have views over the Borrowdale valley. In the elegant dining room overlooking the fells, the cooking is ‘superb’: try fell-bred Herdwick lamb or Borrowdale trout at dinner; buttered kippers or a full Cumberland at a plentiful breakfast. Walking and climbing routes straight from the door; a local bus runs nearby. A complimentary round of golf at Keswick Golf Club is offered to hotel guests. Open-plan bar, dining room and lounge (log fire), reading room. Lift. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV. No background music. Wedding facilities (exclusive use only). 2-acre grounds, terrace (alfresco drinks). Children (£25 per night) and dogs (in 4 rooms; £7 per night) welcomed. 25 bedrooms (10 on ground floor; 1 suitable for disabled). Per person D,B&B £96–£138. Closed Jan 3rd-19th.
