Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Warm and welcoming’, Martin and Heather Walls’s ‘absolutely beautiful’ 18th-century house stands in ‘tranquil’ woodland and gardens – all the better to relax, unwind and keep a keen eye out for red squirrels, rabbits and all manner of wild birds. On cool days, sit by the wood-burning stove in the elegant lounge; there are books and magazines to borrow. B&B accommodation is in smartly decorated bedrooms that mix traditional furnishings with bold modern flourishes; each has a hospitality tray. Travelling with family? Ask for one of two spacious rooms in the eaves, set up with extra single beds for a group. Breakfast is ‘a great start to the day’. Help yourself to vanilla-scented pears, cinnamon-dusted berry compote, Earl Grey-infused figs, home-baked marmalade muffins; spoon porridge with a nip of local Edradour whisky; order a Stornoway black pudding Benedict, or scrambled eggs with Dunkeld smoked salmon. Afterwards, stroll into the Victorian town to explore (during the annual Autumn Festival, there’s much animation till late), or embark on a forest ramble – the Wallses are happy to advise.
