Good Hotel Guide Review
Chef/patron Sarah Lethbridge and her husband, Anthony, run their much-refurbished country pub and hotel in a pretty village close to the Somerset-Dorset border. There are sofas, newspapers, local artwork, a wood-burning stove; a terrace to take in wide views of the countryside. Come in for a pint and a chat; stay for the modern dishes, many cooked in a Josper charcoal oven. Spend the night in one of the colourful, individually styled bedrooms – they’re well equipped with towelling bathrobes, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a DVD-player. Snug, bar, restaurant. Lift. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). No background music. Functions. Terrace, garden, croquet lawn. Shooting parties. Free use of sports centre in Sherborne (4 miles); discounts at Sherborne Golf Club. Clay-pigeon shooting can be arranged. Parking. Children welcomed (special menu; cots, extra beds). 10 bedrooms (1 suitable for disabled; 1 interconnecting family room; 3 accessible by lift). Per room B&B £135–£250. Dinner £26–£30.
