Good Hotel Guide Review
A gem in a stunning setting, Mark and Suzanne McPhillips’s modern B&B inhabits the former home of a Scottish diamond mine owner. The historically fascinating Scottish baronial mansion (later a hospital) rears grandly on a short, steep slope to overlook the bay, yet is within easy walking distance of the town centre, harbour and seafood restaurants. Inside, period features such as stained-glass windows, moulded ceilings and a fine wooden staircase are paired with understated furnishings and contemporary art. Fresh and bright, chic bedrooms are minimalist, with a spacious bathroom; most have sea views. Breakfast on porridge with apricots or a cheesy spinach frittata, watching the activity on the bay below. Fancy a day out? The obliging hosts are pleased to share itineraries for favourite trips around the Inner Hebrides. Sitting room, dining room. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). No background music. ½-acre garden. Parking. 5 bedrooms. Per room B&B £120–£170. Closed Dec–Jan.
