Good Hotel Guide Review
Regular guests speak with fondness of Cherry and Gordon Gunn’s ‘delightful’ B&B, in an extended 17th-century farmhouse. Cherry Gunn is a ‘welcoming, vivacious’ hostess who is ‘meticulous in everything she does’; the couple run their enterprise with ‘commitment and passion’. Take tea with ‘delicious’ home-baked shortbread biscuits in the lounge on arrival, then relax in ‘spotlessly clean’ bedrooms decorated in a traditional style ‘in keeping with the rest of the hotel’. ‘Cherry remembered the room we’d liked on a previous visit,’ say returning guests this year. ‘The largest of their bedrooms, Larch, has a comfortable double bed, a large wardrobe with proper wooden hangers, a selection of books; a lovely Highland view from the dormer window. The faux-medieval decor will divide opinion.’ ‘Generous portions’ of the host’s ‘excellent’ Scottish-inflected French menu are served in the ‘imposing’ dining room. Come morning, ‘very good’ breakfasts (with Gordon Gunn’s ‘creamy’ scrambled eggs and ‘lovely’ bacon) can be a leisurely affair; afterwards, join red squirrels and ‘prolific birdlife’ along a ‘pleasant’ woodland path to an ‘idyllic’ seating spot.
