Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
The most famous hotel in Burgundy”s wine capital continues to win praise from Guide readers: “Nice, characterful, comfy”, “we always find it excellent”, say visitors. Owned by the Bernard family, the stately building, mainly 17th-century, part 14th, has outside stone staircases, a superb spiral stairway, a medieval courtyard, Louis XV decor, a tower with views of the old town. “Our room was well furnished; staff were excellent.” Some bedrooms, though small, have “delightful furniture”; some, more modern, are less interesting. A few rooms face the one-way street; most face the garden or a courtyard. Public rooms are “sumptuously furnished”. A “super” breakfast (fresh orange juice, pastries, cheese, hams) is served in the vaulted former wine cellar. A Michelin-starred restaurant, Loiseau des Vignes, is located on the hotel property but is managed separately by the Bernard Loiseau restaurant group; the chef is Dominique Loiseau. Over 70 wines by the glass are available. New in 2016 is a sleek and luxurious spa.
