Between Dijon and Besançon, this “very beautiful” village has a “wonderful setting” on the River Ognon. By the water, this “real, simple country hotel”, owned since 1940 by the Vieille family, is “not for lovers of luxury”, says a fan. “The emphasis is on good food at reasonable prices.” “Demi-pension was an amazing bargain. Mme Vieille controls the operation, assisted by daughters, grandfathers and various grandchildren. By the end of our stay, we knew them all as friends.” Other comments: “The family, all fine advertisements for good eating, bustled around, serving a five-course dinner with plenty of choice.” The cheeseboard is much admired. “Towards the end, Madame comes to chat, shake hands, and where such familiarity is appropriate, to kiss.” The bar is “full of locals”. The restaurant stands on a busy road, but the bedrooms (some visitors find them too basic) are in a nearby house in a large, quiet garden. “Plumbing a bit erratic, housekeeping a little random, but everything one needs.” Breakfast (baguette, large block of butter, home-made jam, unlimited coffee) is served under fruit trees on fine days. Close by is an island with buvette and bathing area.
