For one family, this hotel/restaurant was “the highlight of our holiday: the accommodation was excellent, the wine list better, the food better still”. “Efficiently run” was another plaudit. A former relais de poste, it stands down a side street in a pleasant old market town in the Pyrenean foothills. “Sublime” regional food is served in the traditional beamed, red-walled dining room, and the weekday menu du jour is admired for its good quality and value. Bedrooms are “decorated and furnished in slightly shabby but cosy French late 19th-century style: lots of dark, highly polished antique furniture that had seen better days, a huge, squidgy old sleigh bed”. The best bedrooms have a balcony facing the flowery garden; all rooms around the courtyard are quiet. The large, “lovely” swimming pool is surrounded by loungers.
