Designed by renowned architect Matteo Thun, Hotel Pergola Residence is set on a hill 3 km from the ski and nature resort of Merano, but hiking trails depart staight from the hotel too. Accommodation consists of a number of stylish contemporary apartments with kitchens and private terraces looking out onto orchards; when it comes to seclusion and privacy, it can't be beat. A recent visitor found, 'The room was superb. Huge, comfortable, enough storage space to stay for a month! Very well designed by a thoughtful architect who knows how to use local wood, and how to design lighting for subtle effect, and how to create a relaxing space.' Breakfast is served in the bistro or in the room and described as 'fabulous. Fresh homemade apple juice was a particular treat. All sorts of other lovely things, from bircher muesli to fresh raspberries.' No other meals are provided besides afternoon coffee and homemade cakes. There's a spa area with a small indoor pool and two different saunas. 'The staff were attentive and very engaged in making sure our stay was perfect.'
