Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
Built in the former hunting seat of Mary Queen of Scots, Melville is an 18th-century country house with towers and crenellations. Inside, some of the bedrooms are indeed fit for a queen, with ornate four posters, table lamps and mirrors as well as richly patterned wallpaper and fabrics. You can search for Queen Mary's oak trees in the grounds before tucking into an afternoon tea, with three tiers of sweet and savoury treats. Later, enjoy a whisky flight in the library bar before a brasserie-style dinner that might include tiger prawn and pesto linguine, burgers, or steaks. Part of the Original Collection, the dog-friendly hotel makes a good Edinburgh stopover; it's a popular venue for weddings.
