Nothing is more peaceful than the image of sitting by the fire nursing a well-earned pint with a sleeping dog at your feet. Few things conjure the impression of hospitality and good cheer quite like a welcoming pub and man/woman’s best friend in tow. It is one of the reasons why the UK’s variety of pubs with rooms have become a hospitality favourite for those wishing to escape with their four legged friends.

From 18th century coaching inns like The Rose and Crown at Barnard Castle, to ancient Canterbury pubs like The Dog at Wingham, the Cuckoo Brown Inn in a pretty village by Lake Windermere, perfect for appetite enhancing walks in picturesque surroundings. Perhaps you will prefer the salt marshes and seascapes of The White Horse at Brancaster Staithe or the gentility of the Beech House & Olive Branch at Clipsham in Rutland.

From dog-friendly London pubs and those in historic towns such as Bank House at King’s Lynn in Norfolk, to country escapes offering superb food, drink and bountiful landscapes to explore such as the 16th-century Lifeboat Inn, which has rescued travellers from storms and hunger for over 500 years.
