Good Hotel Guide Review
Katrina and William Reynolds run their ‘good-value’ restaurant-with-rooms in a rural village by the River Whiteadder. The ‘good ambience’ and ‘first-class food and service’ attract locals to the stone-built 18th-century coaching inn; visitors stay for the comfortable accommodation. In warm weather, all are drawn to the picnic tables in the rear garden, and the wide views over open fields. Chef Lee Cessford’s local-ingredient-inspired modern and classic dishes are served in the informal restaurant or bar, washed down, perhaps, with a glass of home-made ginger beer. Bedrooms, decorated with local artwork, are supplied with Scottish-produced biscuits and toiletries. Breakfast on home-made granola, home-baked bread, Eyemouth kippers and the hostess’s jams and marmalade. Day permits for trout and salmon fishing are available.
