Good Hotel Guide Review
This 18th-century palace is where Marie-Antoinette stayed on her way to meet her husband-to-be, Louis XVI and is now a hotel, “in the best discreet French tradition”. The decor is in Louis XV style: high ceilings, chandeliers, panelling. “The faded grandeur is appealing,” says a visitor, although some find it verging on shabby. The best, “Royal” rooms overlook the “stunningly beautiful” Place Stanislas; quietest ones face the inner courtyard. “Ours,” wrote a recent guest, “was well furnished, with a smart bathroom, and was always in excellent order. In the restaurant, elegantly laid out, cooking and presentation were very good. The local Toul wine is pleasant. A good and varied buffet breakfast. Service was impeccable.” Another visitor recommends dining at the Brasserie Excelsior Flo, “a gloriously buzzy Art Deco joint with great food at reasonable prices”.
