In a picturesque village amid the 'great countryside' of the Massif Central, this 'delightful small hotel' stands on a quiet square behind a lovely abbey (fine Flemish tapestries). It is efficiently run by its owners, Lionel and Estelle Degreze, say enthusiastic visitors. He is the 'accomplished chef'; she looks after front-of-house. Other praise: 'We loved it. Decor old-fashioned, and none the worse for that. Dinner in the small, pretty dining room was serious, and amazing value: good use of local Auvergne ingredients; delicious amuse-gueule; lavish dessert trolley, like the window of a patisserie: exquisite cakes. Waiters wear a bow tie but are not stuffy.' Some bedrooms face the abbey cloister. 'Our room, rather small, was very comfortable: good linen and towels, etc.' Breakfast is a substantial buffet. The village has a classical music festival in late summer.
