Good Hotel Guide Review
On the edge of this Dolomite resort (Wolkenstein in Gröden in German) at the foot of the impressive Sella massif, this ‘superb hotel’, renovated last in 2013, is run by its owner, Carlo Senoner (a skiing world champion at Portillo, Chile, 1966), with his wife, son and daughter. ‘They are all much in evidence,’ say this year’s nominators. It is well placed for winter sports (the ski bus stops outside) and has extensive fitness facilities (see below), including a ‘most beautiful’ indoor swimming pool. ‘Superbly appointed, and furnished in Alpine-chalet style, it has a homely, well-organised feel. The bar and lounge are much used in the evening for playing cards and socialising: great atmosphere. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The en pension dinners are very good, too: you make your selection at breakfast from a menu with two choices of main course, six of dessert. Good parking arrangements.’ Five minutes’ walk from the centre, above the main road (‘which makes it a little noisy at times’).
