Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
A large building by Berzelii Park has, since 1863, contained restaurants, bars and a theatre. Part of it is now this 'discreet and exclusive' boutique hotel. The bedrooms have been designed by Olle Rex, they are done in cherry wood and oak; one reporter found their decor 'a bit stern'; another called it 'cosy yet stylish'. Trouble has been taken with the single rooms: many have a sofa under a bay window. The doubles are in two sizes plus there are suites. Some rooms have a big balcony facing the harbour. Terence Conran designed the restaurant, Berns Asiatiska, in an ornate former music hall: it has huge mirrors and chandeliers, oak panelling, contemporary paintings and fabrics. The 'spectacularly lavish' breakfasts are served here, along with brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Or you can eat in Berns Bistro & Bar, which serves classic French fare and has an outside terrace. There's also a bar which plays electronic music and a nightclub. If you book from Wednesday to Sunday, the hotel provides you with a VIP pass to skip the queues at six of the city's best clubs, plus late check out on Sunday.
