'Time present and time past' can both be found at this 17th-century, mellow-stone, Grade II* listed manor house in parkland, where TS Eliot wrote ‘Burnt Norton’. Formerly the Charingworth Manor Hotel, it was relaunched in 2025 after a design makeover for Madfabulous Hotels. The look is pared-back, with an earthy palette. Bedrooms, in the main house and annexe, have a dreamy, dusky ambience, encouraging guests to slow down and unwind. All have a coffee maker, fridge, posh toiletries. Some courtyard rooms with garden terrace are dog friendly. A short, appealing menu features dishes such as shellfish bisque, mafaldine pasta, aged parmesan, tarragon and parsley oil.
