Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
The wrought iron sign still hangs outside this 15th-century inn: inside are Gothic ceilings and old furniture, and “creaking wooden floors and pleasantly rustic rooms in the older part”, says a visitor. “My single room (without ensuite facilities) was small but rather comfortable; the shared bathroom was spotless.” Other visitors stayed in the newer part. “Our bedroom was light, modern and stylish, in a simple, almost Scandinavian way. The bathroom had high-quality fittings.” “Perfectly placed on a pedestrian street in the old town”, this friendly hotel is run by its owner and manager, Josef Ortner and Sabine Schennach, with an “efficient staff”. Some rooms have a view of the Golden Roof. Rear ones are quietest; front ones hear passers-by during the day, and traffic is allowed between 6 and 10.30 am. Breakfast, in a pleasant panelled room, is a “very good buffet”. There is free wi-fi in all rooms. The garage is three minutes” walk away, reservations are required. In 1769, Mozart (aged 13) and his father stayed here. Leopold wrote to his wife: “Wir sind, Gott Lob, wohl auf. Wir logieren beym weisen Kreutz.”' [We are, thank God, well. We are staying at the Weisses Kreuz.]
