Good Hotel Guide Review
This small three star hotel stands in farmland near a village east of Maastricht. Full of character, it is furnished with antiques, old toys, ornaments and objets d”art; the bar has an aviary with tiny birds; the lounge has a floodlit fish tank and little night-lights under glass domes. There are “lots of places to sit, indoors and out”.Residents are offered a four-course dinner. “Food was tasty’. Small but adequate wine list. Some bedrooms are small, three have a whirlpool bath, one has a small roof terrace with plastic grass. The excellent breakfast buffet includes hot bacon and scrambled eggs.” Light lunches are served. In the large garden, loungers, tables and parasols surround a pond with “special diving ducks”. Many guests are American: Margraten has the third largest US war cemetery in Europe and is the site of the graves of more than 8,000 American soldiers.
Magnificent buildings and culture, with plenty of old houses and buildings, lovely cathedrals and a spectacular cobble-stoned town centre.
Take a boat from Maastricht to visit caves where people hid during the liberation of Maastricht in WWII.
A garden theme park, with flowers from round the world and plenty of attractions for children.
