Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Enjoyable, quirky and good value’, Paul Smyth and Shaun Bailey’s butler-themed B&B occupies a 19th-century gentleman’s residence, ‘an easy walk’ to the promenade and the Montpellier district. Large, traditionally decorated bedrooms bear the name of a famous butler (Jeeves, Hudson, Brabinger, etc), and are just as gracefully turned out as their namesake: each has a hospitality tray, ‘pleasing antiques’, and a ‘gleaming bathroom’ with a powerful shower. There are books and newspapers in the lounge; the small garden is a pleasant place to sit in warm weather. Breakfast, which can be taken on the roof terrace, has a short menu of favourites: home-made oat porridge, Scotch pancakes, smoked salmon, eggs any way.
