Good Hotel Guide Review
Characterful low ceilings and beams mix with extravagant modern touches at this style-savvy hotel and restaurant (Brakspear Pubs), in a 400-year-old Grade II listed building within minutes of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Contemporary bedrooms vary in size, but all have a large bed and a flair for the theatrical, with an elaborately framed mirror here, a suede chaise longue there, perhaps a claw-foot bathtub in the bathroom. Rub shoulders with locals, tourists and a thespian or two in the bustling all-day bistro and atmospheric bar: hung with heavy drapes, and decorated with interesting photographs and ornaments, it’s a quirky, inviting spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
