Good Hotel Guide Review
Two Victorian villas stand amid mature trees and shrubs on the city outskirts, forming a ‘pleasant’ hotel, ‘well located for “doing” Newcastle’. It is owned by Nick and Melanie Tulip. Individually decorated bedrooms range from traditional rooms, perhaps with a four-poster bed, to brightly coloured, more modern accommodation. (A programme of refurbishment is underway.) ‘Ours was spacious and comfortable, with new carpeting and good views over the garden. Some gripes: captive coat hangers; no bathrobes or slippers; sash windows we couldn’t open.’ Modern British dishes are served by ‘cheerful staff’ in the dining room or conservatory; sharing platters (from midday) and a good-value early-bird menu (on weekdays) are also available. 2 miles S of city centre.
