Good Hotel Guide Review
Opposite Red Beck, the stream that once powered its machinery, a former mill in the wooded Shibden valley draws locals and visitors with its many comforts. The past at Max Heaton’s refurbished 17th-century inn is still redolent in the bustling, oak-beamed bar, where guests sample Shibden Mill’s own brew by a vast open hearth. Jolly bedrooms are individually styled, and supplied with bathrobes, teas and coffee. There are gingham and floral prints in one; in another, a deep velvet sofa at the foot of a half-tester bed. Chef Will Webster’s ambitious, Yorkshire-inspired menus have surprises: miso-glazed cod, roasted cauliflower purée, mussels, morels; in the summer, the Shack in the garden serves up alfresco grub.
