In the fold of the Shibden valley, Simon and Caitlin Heaton’s ‘very attractive’ 17th-century country inn stands opposite the mill stream that once powered local industry. Glen Pearson is the manager. Newly refurbished and redesigned, bedrooms have a bright, homely feel, with good facilities: teas and coffees, towelling robes, a DVD-player (and access to a DVD library). In the atmospheric restaurant, chef Darren Parkinson uses Yorkshire fare in his seasonal and early-bird menus; specialities include steaks grilled in the charcoal oven and served with beef-dripping chips.
