Good Hotel Guide Review
Opposite Red Beck, the stream that once powered its machinery, this former mill draws visitors to the wooded Shibden valley. Simon and Caitlin Heaton’s refurbished 17th-century inn might run on different fuel, but it’s still packed with original features including the oak beams and fireplace in the bustling bar, where guests sample Shibden Mill’s own brew. Jolly bedrooms are individually styled, a soaring ceiling in one; a stone archway in another, leading to a free-standing bath. All are supplied with teas and coffees, towelling robes, a DVD-player. The traditional menu has a few surprises: Yorkshire steaks grilled, as one might expect, but also interesting vegan options, such as artichoke and chicory buckwheat pizza.
