Good Hotel Guide Review
Opposite Red Beck, the stream that once powered its machinery, a former mill in the wooded Shibden valley draws locals and visitors to its enfolding comforts. Simon and Caitlin Heaton’s refurbished 17th-century inn might run on different fuel, but it’s still packed with original features including the oak beams and fireplace in the bustling bar, where guests sample Shibden Mill’s own brew. Jolly bedrooms are individually styled, a soaring ceiling in one; a stone archway in another, leading to a freestanding bath. All are supplied with teas and coffee, robes, a DVD-player. Chef Will Webster’s imaginative menus have surprises: cured chalk stream trout, fennel pollen crème fraîche, beetroot cubes, sesame seed tuile, treacle dressing; alfresco grub from the Shack.
