Good Hotel Guide Review
Listen to the ‘wonderful sound of water rushing over the weir’ at Tim Mills and Michael Stephen’s ‘beautifully refurbished’ Georgian villa on ancient city walls along the River Dee. ‘The staff are charming and enthusiastic, and the decor is refreshingly different (a great deal more colourful than the Farrow & Ball we’ve come to expect),’ say Guide inspectors who had ‘a highly enjoyable stay’. Large bedrooms, some with a balcony overlooking the river, are individually designed. ‘Our stunning junior suite had a huge copper bath against an exposed-brick wall. There was a chesterfield sofa in the sitting area; the good-sized bed had top-quality bedding. On the hospitality tray: a large jug of iced water, chic teas, little treats of intense chocolate and fruit cubes.’ At lunch and dinner, join locals and passers-by at Twenty2 restaurant, where chef Christopher Hobley’s modern menus might include tournedos of plaice, scallop mousse, smoked roe, rainbow chard. Breakfast, served by ‘attentive, chatty’ staff in a garden-facing room, is ‘delightful’: ‘delicious yogurt, granola and fruit cups; perfectly poached eggs with a superb hollandaise’. ‘We left with warm feelings.’
