Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Helpful, charming, welcoming staff’ make a stay at this ‘beautiful’ 19th-century stone-and-slate country house a ‘relaxing experience’. The Lake District hotel is owned by Tracey Robinson and Joanna Harbottle. Slumber in one of the ‘gorgeous bedrooms’ styled with bold wallpaper and antique furnishings; there might be a roll-top bath or a sunken spa bath in the bathroom. Ideal for a family, a suite in the grounds has two bedrooms, a lounge and a private patio. Pre-dinner canapés are served in the panelled sitting room; in the Oaks brasserie, sample chef Sharon Elders’s ‘excellent’ French-inflected Cumbrian dishes. (Good vegetarian options.) Breakfast has plenty of choice: griddled pancakes, beech-smoked Cartmel valley kippers, porridge with Lakeland heather honey. 2 miles N of Bowness-on-Windermere.
