Good Hotel Guide Review
On a quiet lane, opposite a ‘delightful, babbling’ river, Richard and Diney Standen’s ‘superior’ B&B is an ‘easy and pleasant’ walk from Ambleside. The large Victorian house has sofas in a light-filled lounge, a blazing fire in the wood-burner, wines and ‘interesting’ spirits in the honesty bar, plus ‘every imaginable’ area map and guidebook. ‘Reasonably priced’ accommodation, with views of the garden, river or Loughrigg Fell, have ‘quality linens’, coffee, tea and biscuits; fluffy towels and local toiletries in the immaculate bathrooms. ‘Breakfast is a highlight’: the orange juice is freshly squeezed; the bread, freshly baked. Let Diney press upon you a slice of home-baked cake before you head off on a walk.
