Good Hotel Guide Review
In a ‘pleasant town’ close to the scenic Southern Upland Way, Robert and Mhairi Ash’s ‘lovely house’ is praised for its ‘well-appointed rooms’ and ‘fantastic cooking’. ‘The views and the food are to die for,’ says a Guide reader this year. The ‘very good-value’ Victorian guest house has ‘comfortable bedrooms’ supplied with a memory foam mattress on the bed, and nice extras – Scottish biscuits, fine toiletries. In the restaurant, chef Matt Seddon’s modern Scottish dishes, from a short and frequently changing menu, might include loin of Annanwater hogget lamb and crispy confit shoulder, dauphinoise potato, sautéed kale. ‘After that delicious dinner, it was a challenge to do justice to the equally excellent breakfast – but we managed.’ Easy access to the M74. 5 mins’ walk to the town centre.
