Good Hotel Guide Review
Built in the early 1800s, this handsome B&B, a former surgeon’s house, stands at the gateway to the Highlands. Andrea and Martin Anderson, its ‘warmly welcoming’, hands-on owners, are ‘very knowledgeable’ about nearby dining, with ‘great advice’ on interesting local sights. Uncluttered rooms, two of them refurbished in 2018, are scattered across the main house and converted stables, each dressed with contemporary pops of colour and equipped with a generous hospitality tray, fluffy towels, quality toiletries, an umbrella for rainy days. Some rooms have a sloping ceiling, a skylight, mountain views; some are nearer the road than others (‘although we weren’t disturbed by traffic noise’). ‘Our comfortable spotlessly clean courtyard suite had a light, bright separate sitting area.’ Mornings are greeted in the ‘delightful’ cedar-and-glass extension with a cosy central wood-burner and views over ‘beautifully kept’ gardens. It hosts a ‘divine’ breakfast: Arnold Bennett omelette, pick-your-own-adventure porridge (summer berry compote, made from fruits from the garden; whisky, cream and sugar; Perthshire honey); apple pancakes with grilled bacon. ‘Simply superb.’ More reports, please.
