Good Hotel Guide Review

Amid two acres of gardens and woodland – look out for wandering pheasants – this Victorian house has been brought up to date with bright, modern rooms and a lofty, glass-fronted extension overlooking the neat lawn. It is owned and amiably run by Lynne Fordyce and John Watters. Smart, contemporary bedrooms are in the main house and converted stables. They vary in size and character – some have original Georgian wooden shutters, others a skylight – but all are thoughtfully equipped with hot drinks, bottles of water and locally made biscuits. A log-burning stove warms the spacious lounge. At breakfast, choose between omelettes, French toast, apple pancakes and a traditional Scottish.
