Good Hotel Guide Review
Trusted friends of the Guide rated this boutique B&B, on the fringe of the Old Town, ‘the nicest’ they had stayed in. The Georgian rectory, standing behind an apron of front garden, has been transformed by its designer/owner, Lionel Copley, who also co-owns Swan House (see next entry). Bare wooden floors and muted paint finishes mix with bespoke hand-painted wallpapers, artfully distressed and antique furniture with modern, sometimes quirky pieces. A chair ‘made entirely of deer skin (ears still in place)’ worried one reader, but who would not love Ebenezer bedroom with its wall of Wedgwood calendar plates, or All Saints Suite, with vintage French bed, bathroom and wet room? All rooms come with fresh milk and home-baked biscuits. Susie and Tina Waddilove are the friendly managers. In the hand-painted breakfast room, wild mushrooms with thyme and bubble and squeak with locally-made black pudding, fried egg and overn-roasted tomatoes provide fuel for a day in Hastings Country Park or a stroll along the beach.
