Good Hotel Guide Review
The remarkable restaurant draws hungry diners to Mel and Martin Board’s modern inn, in a village seven miles east of Shrewsbury. The host, a self-taught cook, devises informal meals and fine seven-course tasting menus using Shropshire produce wherever possible. Typical offerings: English asparagus, pink grapefruit, almonds, scallop; new-season lamb rump, faggot, goat’s cheese croquette, fresh peas. Simply decorated bedrooms are above the bar. Each is supplied with a hospitality tray and a smart TV with on-demand movies; one, in the eaves, has a Juliet balcony with views across the fields. Stop in at the rustic coffee shop, where passing walkers and cyclists take a break, before heading out; the deli/farm shop has picnic hampers and takeaway lunches.
