‘This feels like a place on the up,’ report inspectors of this gastropub with rooms, relaunched by sisters Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton (see Sculthorpe Mill). 'The pub area has a fresh, modern feel, with orange banquettes and dark blue stools.' A turntable playing vinyl records sits on the bar. The beamed bedrooms were in the course of refurbishment during the inspectors' visit. ‘Our deluxe room was compact but bright with two skylights and well lit. The antique Indian-style bed and distressed bedside tables added warmth; the rest of the furniture was built in and functional.’ From a Mediterranean-inspired menu, ‘gazpacho with crab was generous in size and packed with flavour; foraged mushroom and leek tart had a thin, nicely crisp base'. Overall, ‘it had a positive feel about it'. By now it should be shipshape.
