The Village Pub
Cirencester, Gloucestershire
A first foray into pub-keeping by the Pig group and just across the road from a full-grown Pig, this old stone village local has six stylish bedrooms under the eaves, cosy spaces for eating and drinking, and a menu of hearty, traditional pub fare with the odd more modern dish.
Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
After a spell of reinvention as The Boot, this Grade II listed Cotswold stone inn fashioned from three 17th-century cottages has had a re-boot, reverting to its former name when it reopened in June 2024. A first foray into pub-keeping by Home Grown Hotels (parent company of The Pigs), it is a proper, atmospheric village local with flagstone floors, low beams and blazing fires. Air-conditioned bedrooms with gabled dormers under the eaves range from snug, with monsoon shower, to comfy luxe, with free-standing bath and separate shower. Styled by Judy Hutson, they are painted in moody shades, with oil portraits and vintage finds, an espresso machine, mini fridge, Roberts radio. You can drop in for a pint of Tom Long and a pork pie or Gentleman’s Relish on toast. For a full meal, hearty pub dishes might include steak and ale or rabbit and leek pie, smoked haddock fishcakes, bangers and mash, heirloom tomato tart. Or just stroll down the road and eat at big sister venture the Pig in the Cotswolds (see entry) and take a tour of the renowned gardens.
