Good Hotel Guide Review
Visitors answering the call of the wild birds at the RSPB nature reserve at Minsmere convene with locals at this 12th-century coaching inn, much-liked for its dog-friendly atmosphere. ‘Hearty yet sophisticated dishes’, perhaps grilled seabass fillet, ratatouille, new potatoes, basil pesto, are served before the fire in the cosy parlour, or in the airy Garden Room; on fine days, dining heads into the terraced garden. A separate menu and colouring book for children. Country-style bedrooms have local magazines, ground coffee, home-made biscuits. Visiting dogs are welcomed with biscuits, a blanket and breakfast sausage. Breakfast brings many choices including eggs Benedict with Suffolk ham; Lowestoft smoked haddock with poached eggs. A sister hotel to The Lifeboat Inn, Thornham (see Shortlist).
