Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A village within a village.’ An enclosed collection of restored 17th-century farm buildings, houses and cottages has been unified by founder Caryn Hibbert over 15 years into a quintessentially English country retreat. In the embrace of a peaceful 150-acre estate, there is a pub, cookery school, spa, shop and chic bedrooms (a roll-top bath in some) decorated with lavish fabrics and botanical prints. Join the flock for a cocktail in the former lambing sheds; woolly sheep stools add rural aptness to the smart green and gold decor. Caryn’s son, Charlie, uses produce from the farm and kitchen garden for his seasonal dishes, perhaps braised beef, pickled walnut, salsa verde and mash, prepared in the open kitchen of the lofty Ox Barn. Informal pub food in The Swan.
