Good Hotel Guide Review
While some of us bring home a fridge magnet or a Cornishware teapot, businessman Andrew Long has gone one better and bought a hotel. After spending blissful family holidays over the past 30 years at this iconic white cliff-top edifice in 12-acre grounds, in January 2022 he acquired it. There are plans for some necessary upgrading, but the ‘lovely staff’ will be staying and, with Nigel Chapman at the helm, this happy ship sails into the main Guide this year. As founder of Luxury Family Hotels (see Fowey Hall, Fowey), Mr Chapman brings a flexible approach to hospitality, with a wide choice of bedrooms in simple, contemporary style, a sea or countryside view and baby-listening. An all-day menu offers people-pleasing dishes, from wood-fired pizzas, beef or falafel burgers and fish and chips, to chargrilled steak, herb-crusted fish of the day, and lobster. A free-and-easy ambience includes alfresco dining, cocktails and cream teas, spa treatments, a health club, swimming pools, a gym, hot tub and tennis court. The hotel’s own cove is a ten-minute walk away, and the South West Coast Path runs right by.
