Steps from the South West Coast Path, Stuart Litster and Kevin Hooper’s ‘superbly decorated’ Jacobean manor house in a small village close to Dartmouth has panoramic sea views stretching over Start Bay. B&B guests come for ‘the warmth of welcome’ as much as the tea and home-baked cake served on arrival. Overlooking the garden, the lounge has large sofas; a log fire is lit in cool weather. In the main house and a duplex cottage suite, contemporary bedrooms have ‘pristine bedding’, fresh flowers and biscuits; ‘windows open to let in sea air and birdsong’. After a breakfast of ‘delicious fruit’ and ‘beautifully cooked’ hot dishes, head for the pine-fringed bay around Blackpool Sands, a 20-minute walk away.

The house is beautiful, with a large lounge for the use of guests, a wonderful selection of books, and superb decor throughout. Our bedroom was spacious with a comfortable, extra-large bed, pristine white bedding, , well-quipped bathroom, lovely sea and garden view, and windows which actually open to let in the sea air and bird song. Breakfast was comprehensive with delicious fresh fruit and beautifully cooked and presented food. I would like to stress, in particular, the warmth of our welcome from Stuart and Kevin.
