A relaxing base in the rugged Western Lake District, Faith and Stephen Newell’s fantastically secluded B&B is sleekly designed, and has many modern comforts. Bursts of vibrant colour complement the high beamed ceilings and timber and flagstone floors in the stone-built house. Outside, the breathtaking views stretch across Wasdale – home to England’s deepest lake, Wastwater, and Scafell Pike, its highest mountain. An outdoor hot tub soothes aching muscles after a day’s walk. The large lounge has an honesty bar, a piano, an open fire for cool evenings; each spacious suite has a private patio. Picnics and home-cooked dinners may be pre-ordered; breakfast, served in the courtyard on sunny days, is ‘excellent’.
