Rolling countryside surrounds this large Georgian house in extensive grounds of meadows and woodland; a tunnel leads to the river Wylye. Part of the Kaleidoscope Collection (see Homewood, Bath, and The Bird, Bath), the family-friendly hotel has a 'lively and busy spa' plus heated outdoor pool and a large hot tub. Indoor types can relax by a warming fire in one of the large, beautifully proportioned drawing rooms. Canine guests receive a ‘Woof’ box and can test their skills on the dog agility course. Bedrooms, many recently refurbished, have opulent touches, and verdant views. They vary in size from snug spaces to duplex suites; two suites have a hot tub. A modern menu including a 'really good daube de boeuf' is served in the restaurant, where large windows look out over the terrace and garden. (Carol Jackson)
