Good Hotel Guide Review
At the gate of an ancient Roman wall, this old inn (Young’s Brewery) close to the cathedral was given a stylish makeover in 2017. Lively with interesting curios and splashes of colour, it’s a popular place with locals, who come for the cocktails and craft beers, and the pub food served all day. Eat in the buzzy restaurant (half-panelled walls, banquettes, mismatched chairs) or spill on to the large beer garden in balmy weather – pergolas and parasols provide shade. ‘Boutiquey’, air-conditioned bedrooms vary in size and style; some, with a sofabed, can accommodate a family. All are supplied with a capsule coffee machine, a selection of teas, complimentary port and Devon fudge. Interesting options at breakfast: ‘doorstop’ sandwiches, Brixham crab cakes. Train stations are within walking distance.
