Good Hotel Guide Review
A former haunt of English noblemen, this B&B is a conversion of two pink colonial-style villas once owned by Sir Daniel Hanbury. It stands above the town in a park with magnolias, eucalyptus, cypresses, olive trees and jacaranda, and panoramic views of the Baia del Sole on the Ligurian coast. ‘Not a ritzy glitzy place but an absolute joy,’ says its nominator. ‘Bountiful breakfast on the terrace: good coffee, wonderful home-baked cakes, fruits, yogurts, freshly squeezed orange juice. Good value.’ Some bedrooms have a fireplace, some open on to a loggia or patio, some have a private sitting-out area. One large room has its own small children’s room and a huge spa bath. The architecture is stunning [beams, arches, old windows and a handsome Carrara marble staircase], and the buildings are full of historical interest.’ The beach is a ten-minute walk down (‘you have to feel energetic for the walk back’).
