Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
This old hill village near Menton, and the wooded Cap Martin below it, have long attracted the great. Austria”s Empress “Sissi” first made it fashionable; Yeats and Le Corbusier both died here; Churchill often came to paint the coast and its glorious views. Guide readers, too, come to Dutchman Willem Bonestroo”s restaurant-with-rooms (once a school), with its fine views over the coast. The “two brothers” are the two large rocks which loom above it. “An amazing host, and a magnificent place to stay, with a lunch menu of exceptional value,” said a devotee recently. “The square outside has in recent years gone from chaotic to chic, as Roquebrune is now quite smart. The restaurant is cosy inside: eating outside, you have a superb view.” “The owner is affable, the food is good, especially fish.” The rooms (some are small) are all themed: Flower Power, Nuit de Noce, Écologique, etc. The dining room has high-beamed ceilings, flowers, candlelight. One reader reports noisy voices in the square at night. Since last year double glazing did entry in our old schoolhouse car access for hotelquest : you park down a steep hill.
