In a picturesque village in the forest of Compiègne, Yves Giustiniani”s restaurant-with-rooms was liked by visitors: “A lovely suite with large bedroom, very nice bath and shower, large sitting room. Lovely food too.” “A warm welcome; help with luggage. Our room, up steep stairs, had low eaves.” Some rooms are in the main building; others in an annexe in the grounds. “The gardens are well tended”; in summer, meals are served on the terrace. “In the elegant beamed dining room, dinner was a gastronomic experience.” Yves is chef and has a Michelin star for eg foie gras ravioli; scampi carpaccio; salt-baked sea bass; Grand Marnier soufflé; auberge pancake. Breakfast is thought “exceptional”. Staff are friendly. At nearby Pierrefonds, the feudal castle was much restored by Viollet-le-duc.
