Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting’; ‘calm and quiet’. It is one of the Guide’s best-loved hotels, owned by the Marignane brothers: Christophe and Vincent manage; Philippe is the ‘accomplished chef’. Their ‘beautiful, old bastide’, outside a delightful small town below the Massif de la Sainte Baume, stands in a large walled garden with swimming pool and fountain. It is liked for its ‘special atmosphere, created by grounds, building and above all by the charming owners and helpful staff’, and ‘air of faded gentility’. Magnificent plane trees shade the terrace: at one end are sofas where drinks are served to classical music. You dine at the other end, or in the ‘superb’ restaurant. ‘The half-board menu was no-choice, but alternatives were readily offered. Food is tasty, not rich.’ ‘Professional service from discreet staff.’ ‘They are totally flexible about children’s meals.’ The spacious bedrooms are ‘beautifully furnished’. ‘I liked our green-flecked marble bathroom.’ Bicycles are available free of charge.
