Good Hotel Guide Review
The blocky exterior of this floating hotel at Royal Victoria Docks may not be entirely inspiring, but the ideas behind it more than make up for that. A social business, the hotel reinvests all profits into charitable causes, including on-the-job training for long-term-unemployed local people. Work, meet and eat in the open-plan lounging/dining space (pared-down industrial decor, communal tables, locally brewed beers, neighbourhood freelancers); in fine weather, move the action to the Astroturfed rooftop garden and terrace. Breakfast, salads, sharing platters and tapas dishes are served throughout the day. Bedrooms are boxy and minimalist, but the essentials are there: a desk area, a safe, tea-making facilities and bathrobes. Book a room with a river view and wake to the sight of the city across the water. Handy for ExCeL London. (DLR: Royal Victoria)
