Good Hotel Guide Review
Arguably, this former Victorian shooting lodge has the best location in Portree with views over the bay and Sound of Raasay and to the Cuillin mountains. Screened by mature grounds, it feels secluded yet is only a ten-minute walk from the centre. The hotel has been run by the Wickman family for 25 years, and the ‘hands-on management really shows’, with luggage whisked to rooms and staff who ‘take a pride in their work’. After a day’s exploring, relax in the warmly coloured lounge with chesterfields and log fire before an ‘excellent’ dinner of Scottish classics such as Skye mussels followed by roast venison, rounded off with one of over 130 whiskies. Smart contemporary rooms include fruit and local shortbread; many have sea views.
