Good Hotel Guide Review

A grand little handful of Georgian terraces combines into Patricia Roberts’s lovingly restored, ‘elegant’ town house hotel. Painted boxes of books, tubs of flowers and a dappling of mirrors line the public spaces. An open fire in the bar and soft candlelight in the vaulted basement spa create a restful atmosphere. Bedrooms vary in size and style. Up the house’s original staircase are ‘elegant, spacious’ period-style rooms, all heritage colours, handmade beds and lofty sash windows. ‘Ours had a big bathroom with roll-topped bath, and overlooked the attractive Pery Square.’ Down the corridor, Club Rooms are smaller and more modern, with courtyard or rooftop views. Chef Tim Harris’s ‘excellent’ cooking highlights seasonal fare in the ‘very pleasant’ bistro restaurant, perhaps wild garlic risotto, broad bean, mascarpone; or pork belly, Medjool date stuffing. Breakfast includes ‘fine’ Limerick ham and artisan bacon and sausages, ‘served by very jolly staff’; ‘the fresh fruit salad could have been fresher, but it was replaced immediately’. Guests this year enjoyed complimentary tickets provided for a local theatre/arts festival: ‘A nice touch.’ (David Britton)

Guest comments

'I recommend this small hotel for the warm welcome. All the staff (all local) were friendly. It is in the city centre, but remarkably quiet. Each rooms is named after a famous Irish writer. The Yeats room, although smallish, was well appointed, with windows overlooking the gardens of the Limerick Civic Trust building, and a side view towards a church. Very good toiletries. Extremely comfortable bed. Our car was parked for us and brought back to the front door on our departure. Breakfast was good. ' - DB - September, 2016
'Outstanding. Our room was small and faced the street, with accompanying street sounds, but it was well furnished, with enormous bed and a bathroom almost as big. The lads who happily showed us our room were quick to bring complimentary tea. The two lads, again, ran the dining room. Steak cooked to perfection, Rioja one of the best we had ever tasted. Breakfast - no big fry-up, but something much better: fresh juices, home-baked banana bread, eggs any way you want. All dished up by one elegant, friendly lady. The public rooms are small, and pre dinner drinks were expensive, but we will remember dinner and the skill with which we were served.
