Good Hotel Guide Review
A grand little handful of Georgian terraces combines into Patricia Roberts’s lovingly restored, ‘elegant’ town house hotel. Painted boxes of books, tubs of flowers and a dappling of mirrors line the public spaces. An open fire in the bar and soft candlelight in the vaulted basement spa create a restful atmosphere. Bedrooms vary in size and style. Up the house’s original staircase are ‘elegant, spacious’ period-style rooms, all heritage colours, handmade beds and lofty sash windows. ‘Ours had a big bathroom with roll-topped bath, and overlooked the attractive Pery Square.’ Down the corridor, Club Rooms are smaller and more modern, with courtyard or rooftop views. Chef Tim Harris’s ‘excellent’ cooking highlights seasonal fare in the ‘very pleasant’ bistro restaurant, perhaps wild garlic risotto, broad bean, mascarpone; or pork belly, Medjool date stuffing. Breakfast includes ‘fine’ Limerick ham and artisan bacon and sausages, ‘served by very jolly staff’; ‘the fresh fruit salad could have been fresher, but it was replaced immediately’. Guests this year enjoyed complimentary tickets provided for a local theatre/arts festival: ‘A nice touch.’ (David Britton)
