It is written for the reader seeking impartial advice on finding a good place to stay. Hotels cannot buy their way into the Guide. Good Hotel Guide Review
The hotel experts at the Good Hotel Guide
Liza Minnelli, Peter Ustinov and Daniel Day-Lewis are among past guests who have fallen for the time-warp charms of Ireland's oldest coaching inn. Since 1825 it has passed down through the Hunter and Gelletlie families, who never got the memo to 'chuck out the chintz'. It's eccentric and charming, with antiques, paintings and old prints. Take tea and scones by a bog fire; dine at starched linen-covered tables on pâté with Melba toast, roast Wicklow lamb with garden mint sauce and home-grown vegetables, sherry trifle or crème caramel. The River Vartry runs past spectacular landscaped gardens, where a sign admonishes that 'Ladies and gentlemen will not, and others must not pull the flowers.'
