Sleek and ultra-modern, Tony Pithers and Gordon Craig's 'beautifully designed' B&B stands in hillside woodland across the estuary from Dartmouth. The 1960s Le Corbusier-inspired 'butterfly house' is a tranquil, adults-only space. Light-filled bedrooms decorated with abstract art each have their own entrance and private terrace with outdoor seating (some reached via steep steps). Well equipped, they come with robes and slippers, a mini-fridge, an espresso machine and treats. A 'very good breakfast', in a glass-fronted room overlooking the swimming pool, starts with freshly squeezed juices, locally baked bread, fruit compote; eggs Benedict or other cooked dishes follow.
