Good Hotel Guide Review
Across the estuary from Dartmouth, in its own hillside woodland, Tony Pithers and Gordon Craig’s ultra-modern 1960s Butterfly house (one of four like it in Devon) has a curving staircase, angled zinc roof and glass walls. An adults-only B&B, it is intimate and discreet. Light-filled bedrooms each have their own entrance and private deck reached via steep steps. Abstract art dots the sleek, well-designed interiors; each room is well appointed, with plenty of extras (a mini-fridge, an iPod docking station, espresso machine, fudge, home-made biscuits). Breakfast, in an open-plan room overlooking the swimming pool, might start with freshly squeezed juices, locally baked bread, fruit compote; eggs Benedict, Florentine or other cooked dishes to follow.
