VisitEngland Five Star Restaurant with Rooms
Good Hotel Guide Review
In the middle of a pretty village, this ‘intimate’ restaurant-with-rooms is liked for its ‘high-quality’ accommodation and ‘excellent food’. It is part of the family-run Stuart Inns group; its ‘buzzy’ restaurant sees antique hunters, drawn by surrounding emporiums, rub shoulders with gourmands enjoying ‘creative, well-presented meals’. A characteristic dish: wild boar, potato-black pudding pressé, hen of the woods, Calvados apple. Bedrooms are within rolling distance, above the restaurant or in Melford House next door. (No staff remain overnight.) ‘Boldly furnished, with lovely details’, each room is a little different. Sizes may vary, but each has a super-king-size bed, still and sparkling water, fruit and home-made brownies. One large suite has a generous copper bath in the master bedroom, and a separate sitting area with a pull-out sofa. Breakfast, served in the bar, or the ‘lovely garden’, delivers fresh orange juice followed by the likes of avocado on sourdough toast; eggs Benedict with Suffolk ham; grilled kippers from Pinney’s of Orford. That ‘delightfully nutty granola’ can be bought in the Duck Deli next door. (AW, and others)
